HUTCHINSON, KS – Garden City Community College struck first but could not keep pace with a mid-game surge from Hutchinson Community College, falling 15-2 in Game 2 of a road doubleheader Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Broncbusters (22-34, 12-20) plated an early run in the opening inning but were held in check offensively the rest of the way, finishing with four hits as Hutchinson pulled away with multi-run innings in the middle and late frames.

Garden City opened the scoring in the first inning when Karson Evans delivered an RBI single through the left side, bringing home Aiden Roberts for a 1-0 advantage.

Hutchinson answered in the second and took control in the third, stringing together timely hits to plate three runs. The Blue Dragons added to their lead in the fourth with another three-run inning, capitalizing on extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning to extend the margin.

The Broncbusters briefly cut into the deficit in the fourth. Sean Philpotts sparked the rally with a triple, and Will Togher followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2.

That would be the final push for Garden City, as Hutchinson responded with two runs in the fifth before breaking the game open in the sixth. A six-run inning highlighted by a pair of home runs and multiple RBI hits put the contest out of reach.

Offensively, Evans and Philpotts each recorded a hit and drove key moments early, while Cael Hamrick and Roberts added the other two hits for the Broncbusters.

On the mound, Garden City used four pitchers, with Willis Simair taking the loss after allowing four runs in two innings of work.
