After 37 years with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), Mike Pittman is retiring from his role as District Six Construction and Materials Engineer for southwest Kansas.

Pittman began his career in 1988 as a Civil Engineer based in Liberal. In 2001, he was promoted to Area Three Engineer and also stepped in as Acting District Construction and Materials Engineer in Garden City. A year later in 2002, he officially became the District Construction and Materials Engineer, a position he has held for more than two decades.

During his career, Pittman oversaw KDOT projects across 19 counties and over 3,300 miles of state highways, playing a key role in shaping southwest Kansas’ transportation network.

“In my 37 years with KDOT, I have enjoyed working with some great KDOT employees and some good contractors,” Pittman said. “I was also fortunate enough to be involved with four highway programs, which have improved the highway systems in Kansas.”

Pittman resides in Holcomb and looks forward to gardening, fishing and spending time with his pets, family and friends. He has five adult children and four grandchildren.
