Myrtle Mae Horton Teeter, age 97, of Johnson, Kansas died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was born March 16, 1916 in rural Stevens County, Kansas, the daughter of John Alanson “Lant” and Roxie Viala (Burrous) Horton.

Myrtle grew up in Stevens County and was a graduate of Stevens County High School. She attended cosmetology school and was a hairdresser in Ulysses, Kansas before she married. On December 31, 1936, Myrtle married Harry W. Teeter at Ulysses, Kansas. For many years, Myrtle and Harry lived and farmed North of Moscow in Grant County, Kansas. While living north of Moscow, Myrtle was a member of the Moscow Methodist Church, the Sew and Sew Club, Cimarron Grange #1932 and the HDU club. In 1946, Myrtle and Harry bought a farm Southeast of Johnson in Stanton County. Myrtle and Harry moved to Johnson in 1976. Myrtle was an active member of the Johnson United Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Unit, EHU and Cosmos Club. Myrtle served on the Stanton County Extension Board, the Stanton County Senior Center Board and provided over 20 years of volunteer service to the LTCU as a hairdresser.

Survivors include one son; Glen Teeter and wife Velta of Johnson, Kansas, one daughter; Janice Battin of Ulysses, Kansas, one son-in-law; Ron Dennis of Plevna, Kansas, one sister; Faye Langley of Dodge City, Kansas, one brother, Scherrial Horton of Van Nuys, California, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Harry W. Teeter, one daughter; JoAnn Dennis, one grandson; Bradley Dennis, one son-in-law; Charlie Battin, three sisters; Dorothy Reynolds, Carol Clark and Betty Gay and six brothers; Lant Horton, Jr., Joe Horton, Dean Horton, LeRoy Horton, Dale Horton and Donald Horton.

Visitation: 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson, Kansas. 
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Richard Fitzgerald officiating.
Interment: Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. 
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas or the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855.
