Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – For the first three innings of game one on Thursday at Tangeman Sports Complex, it looked like the Garden City Community College Lady Buster Softball team would make a run at the No 2 Butler Lady Grizzlies but the outcome was much different. The Lady Busters dropped both games 8-2 in the first and a five inning 18-3 blow-out for the night-cap. Coach Becky Holland was not pleased with the way her team competed throughout the two games, as the Lady Grizzlies did pretty much what they wanted to all day.

Game one went scoreless for the first three innings and Lady Buster sophomore pitcher Kallie Hoover limited Butler to four hits and no runs. Over the next four innings it was 10 hits and 8 runs by the Grizzlies as they held an 8-0 lead before Garden City would close out the game with a couple of runs in bottom of the 7th off a single by Canada freshmen Emily Laliberte, a walk from Amber Peterson and a two RBI double by Hoover that gave the Lady Busters their only two runs that closed out game one for a Lady Grizzly 8-2 victory.

In the night-cap it was Butler all the way from the start, except for a brief three run production by Garden City in the bottom of the first and 2nd innings, as sophomore Makayla Aguiniga scored two runs and Alex Barleen added one that brought it to a Butler 4-3 advantage. The Lady Grizzlies had opened the top of the first with four runs off four runs based on two singles, a triple and a two run home run by Kate James. It was all the Grizzlies in the 4th and 5th as they scored 14 runs from 8 hits and left 4 on base to take a commanding 18-3 lead. The Grizzlies winning pitcher Kelsey Berlin who has signed with Oklahoma shut down the Lady Busters in the bottom of the 5th to win the run rule contest 18-3, dropping Garden City to 11-14 on the season and 5-3 in the Jayhawk West. The No 2 Lady Grizzlies moved to 27-2 and 6-0 in the Conference. Garden City will travel to Colby on April 3rd for a double header.
