Oklahoma man dies in vehicle-train accident

Seward County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)– A Hooker, Oklahoma man died as the result of a vehicle-train accident Friday afternoon just before 4:30 pm in Seward County.

According to the report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 35-year-old David Vargas of Hooker was traveling southbound on Main Street in Kismet, when he drove around the railroad crossing arm and was struck by an eastbound train.

Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Hornung Funeral Home. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the KHP report.
