Richard Martin Long, age 75, of Ulysses, Kansas died Friday, December 27, 2013 at The Oxford Grand in Wichita, Kansas. He was born May 20, 1938 in Liberal, Kansas, the son of Martin M. and Rosetta (Richardson) Long.

Richard married Verna Schoonover on June 23, 1956 in Syracuse, Kansas. They moved to rural Grant County and started farming in 1960. Richard enjoyed a rewarding career in farming for many years before retiring and moving to Pueblo, Colorado in 1996. While in Pueblo, Richard and Verna both took great pleasure in competitive trap shooting. They returned to Ulysses in 2000 where they continued to enjoy friends and family. Richard and Verna then moved to Wichita in 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Verna of Wichita, Kansas; two sons, Martin E. Long of Ulysses, Kansas, and Michael T. Long of Ulysses, Kansas; one daughter, Jennifer Feldt of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and one sister, Joyce Cain of Denver, Colorado.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Martin M. Long; and his mother, Rosetta (Richardson) Long.

Visitation: 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. 
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Pastor Janet Hernandez and Reverend Sam Bynum officiating.
Interment: Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas.
