Scott City tennis wins Larned Invitational; baseball & softball splits games at Cimarron

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a busy Tuesday for several SCHS sports, as tennis competed in Larned, while baseball and softball went on the road to take on Cimarron.

Starting with Tennis, the boys tennis team would win the meet in Larned. All six players took first, as Reed Batterton was first at No. 1 Singles, Emilio Alarcon at No. 2 Singles, Brant Powelson/Carson Bennett at No. 1 Doubles and winning first at No. 2 Doubles was Brice Koehn/Isaiah Rogers. The varsity will compete at the Garden City Invitational on Saturday, as they are down to their final three meets of the regular season.

At Cimarron, the Beaver baseball team faced off against Cimarron in a GWAC doubleheader. It was a scoreless game until the sixth inning when Scott City put the first run on the board, and added another run in the seventh to pick up a 2-0 win. Aaren Radke had two hits and an RBI, while Easton Eisenhour drove in the additional run. Eisenhour scattered six hits and struck out three in seven innings of work, throwing only 80 pitches. The Beavers outhit the Bluejays 8-6. In the finale, Cimarron struck first to lead 3-0 after the first inning. Scott City responded with a six spot in the second and took an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the third frame. The Bluejays pulled to within 8-6 after three, and the Beavers added two more runs to lead 10-6 after the top of the fourth. Cimarron took the lead for good with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, as they picked up the 12-10 win. Aaren Radke had five RBI with two hits, including a two-run home run. Emilio Contreras added a two-run home run, as did Jackson Harris. Teagan Feely went five innings, giving up six runs, five earned on five hits with a strikeout, while Spencer Cramer gave up six runs, four earned, on five hits in 1/3 of an inning. Cimarron outhit the Beavers 10-8 in game two.

Scott City is 7-7 on the year, 4-4 in GWAC play, as they host Garden City on Friday and Goodland next Tuesday.

Softball was in Ingalls facing the Cimarron Bluejays in GWAC play. It would feature a pair of low scoring games. In the opener, Cimarron put up two runs in the bottom of the first, before the Lady Beavers tied things up in the top of the fourth. However, the Lady Bluejays would respond with three in the bottom of the frame. Scott City was able to push one more run across in the seventh, and fell short 5-3. Baylee Wolkensdorfer went six innings in the circle, giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits with six strikeouts. Crissa Irvin and Riley Suppes each had two hits, and Hayla Edwards and Adalei Zeller each drove in a run. The finale saw the Lady Beavers jump out to a 3-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Cimarron answered with a run in the third and fifth, and were unable to push a run across with the bases loaded in the sixth. Scott City hung on for the 3-2 win. Baylee Wolkensdorfer would drive in two runs and Piper Fox collected two hits. Riley Suppes went all seven innings in the circle, giving up two unearned runs on two hits with five strikeouts.

The Lady Beavers are now 11-3 overall, 5-3 in GWAC play, and will play at Southwestern Heights on Thursday and host Goodland on Tuesday.
