Sub-State golf results Monday
While area schools in Class 6A and 4A have golf sub-state today, several area golfers hit the links on Monday in hopes of qualifying for state. The state golf tournaments will take place May 26-27. Class 6A is in Mayetta, Class 4A in Wichita, Class 3A in Topeka, Class 2A in Winfield and Class 1A in McPherson.
Starting in Class 3A at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby, the Goodland Cowboys would win the regional, edging Russell, while Colby was third. Only one area golfer qualified for state. Lakin’s Zavian Richter tied for fourth place, while there were several who missed the cut by just one shot.
Class 2A was at Prairie Pines Golf Courst in Johnson, where the Syracuse Bulldogs qualified their team for state with a first place finish. Oakley and Trego were the two additional qualifers. Individual area qualifiers included Sublette’s Ethan Webber and Tyson Peters from Wichita County.
Class 1A saw area schools spread within three different locations. At Sharon Springs Golf Course, Oberlin was the regional champion, while Ellis and Greeley County were the additional team qualifiers. In the St. John sub-state at the Stafford County Country Club, South Gray took the team title, while Kiowa County and Hodgeman County also qualified. And at Mariah Hills Country Club in Dodge City hosted by Meade, Elkhart was the regional champion, followed by Meade and Minneola rounding out the state qualifying teams. Satanta’s Erik Moreno, Kahne Cook and Jake Evans from Bucklin, as well as Moscow’s Lucas Howe qualified individually.
