Broncbusters Rally Late to Earn Split with 8-7 Win Over Colby

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College erased an early deficit with a late-game rally, defeating Colby Community College 8-7 in Game 2 of a home doubleheader Thursday at Williams Stadium.
The Broncbusters (18-26, 9-13) responded after dropping the opener, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to complete the comeback and earn the split.
Colby struck early and often, plating four runs in the first inning behind timely hitting and taking advantage of a Garden City miscue. The Trojans added two more runs over the next inning to build a 6-1 lead through two frames.
Garden City answered in the bottom of the second, scoring twice to cut into the deficit. The Broncbusters manufactured a run in the fourth to make it 6-3, but struggled to generate sustained offense through the middle innings.
Colby extended its lead in the sixth and seventh innings, highlighted by a two-run sixth and a solo home run from Callum Thomson in the seventh, pushing the advantage to 7-4.
Trailing by three entering the eighth, Garden City delivered its decisive surge. The Broncbusters strung together timely hits and capitalized on opportunities, scoring four runs to take their first lead of the game. Aiden Roberts provided the biggest swing with a two-run single, while additional RBI contributions helped complete the rally.
Colby threatened in the ninth, but Garden City held firm to secure the one-run victory.
Offensively, the Broncbusters totaled 11 hits, with multiple players contributing in key moments. Roberts led the way with a pair of RBIs, while timely production throughout the lineup fueled the late comeback.
On the mound, Garden City battled through early adversity before settling in late, limiting further damage to give the offense a chance to rally.
